October is one of the best months to live in the Summerville area, and the calendars in Cane Bay and Nexton prove it. Between the Cane Bay Family YMCA's Fall Community Extravaganza and Nexton's Boo Bash at Nexton Square, there is a family-friendly event nearly every weekend this month. This edition rounds up the verified upcoming happenings in Cane Bay Plantation and Nexton, with dates, times, locations, and a few local notes to help you plan. I am Denise Rush, a REALTOR® with EXIT Realty Lowcountry Group who has worked in the Cane Bay corridor for years, and I keep this list current each month.
October in Cane Bay: the YMCA's Fall Community Extravaganza
The Cane Bay Family YMCA (1655 Cane Bay Blvd) hosts its annual Fall Community Extravaganza and Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 31, from 12 to 3 PM. It is an afternoon of fall fun with trunk-or-treating, food trucks, a DJ, and local vendors, plus special guests including the Berkeley County Fire Department, EMS, and Sheriff's Office with their rescue vehicles. The Cane Bay High School band opens the afternoon. Non-members are welcome, and it is a good chance to tour the facility and see the programs the Y runs for the neighborhood.
The Takeaway
A practical note: trunk-or-treat events like this one draw a big crowd, so arrive a little early, bring the kids in costume, and expect a busy parking lot on a Saturday afternoon. It is a great event to fold into a walk around the neighborhood before the evening rush.
The Cane Bay Farmers Market keeps its monthly rhythm
The Cane Bay Farmers Market runs the first Saturday of each month, March through December, from 10 AM to 2 PM at Berkeley Preparatory Academy (122 Bee Tree Blvd). You will find local farmers, artisans, fresh produce, baked goods, handmade items, and food trucks. The October edition was October 3, so mark your calendar for the next one on Saturday, November 7.
Nexton's October lineup
Get REEL
Wednesday, October 21, 11 AM to 1 PM, listed on Nexton's official community events calendar. It is a midweek, daytime event, so it is an easy one to catch during a lunch break or with younger kids.
Cozy Up To Nexton
Saturday, October 24, 12 to 4 PM, on Nexton's official community events calendar. A fall-themed afternoon in the heart of the master plan, just the kind of low-key community gathering Nexton does well.
Boo Bash at Nexton Square
Saturday, October 24, 5 to 8 PM at Nexton Square, 801 Nexton Square Drive. This is Nexton's free, family-friendly Halloween event, with trunk-or-treating, a live DJ, spooky games, and a costume contest. In past years the square fills with decorated trunks and families in costume, and guests are asked to bring their own chair or blanket.
The Takeaway
Cozy Up To Nexton and Boo Bash at Nexton Square both land on Saturday, October 24, so you can make it a full day: enjoy the afternoon event, then stay in the square for the evening trunk-or-treat. That is the kind of rhythm that makes these communities feel like a neighborhood rather than just a place to live.
Just outside the gates: Summerville staples
A short drive from Cane Bay and Nexton, downtown Summerville keeps its own October calendar. The Summerville Farmers Market runs every Saturday, 8 AM to 1 PM through mid-November, at 218 S Main St in the First Citizens Bank parking lot behind Town Hall. And the Summerville Wine & Food Festival returns Saturday, October 17, at 1 PM at 162 Cherry St, a ticketed event worth booking ahead if it fits your weekend.
A local note on planning your month
Community calendars can shift as dates get closer, so it is always worth confirming times on the official pages before you head out. The details here are pulled from the organizers' own listings, and I will refresh this guide each month so you have a current, local-first look at what is happening in Cane Bay and Nexton.
For the everyday rhythm of the area, my Cane Bay guide and my Nexton guide cover the parks, trails, and local spots that anchor a normal week here.
